Green Meadow Farms, Inc. "Where the Latchstring is always out"
|
||||
|
There are many different areas that make up our
dairy farm. There are also a lot of people that make this farm run
smoothly. We employ around 75 people. |
||||
|
Our four main areas of interest are the parlor,
crops, young stock, and our manure system. Green Meadow Farms is
different from most farms for various reasons. A couple being that
we are the home of the
Michigan State University Training Center for
Dairy Professionals,
and the other is our manure system. The
Michigan State University Training Center for Dairy Professionals is a
one of a kind teaching center that was brought up to our farm by the
Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine so that Vet
students could receive specialized training in caring for
dairy animals. The center opened in the summer of 2005.
The center is not limited to vet students, they also deal with
professionals in the dairy industry as well as other college students
studying in the dairy field. For more information about the center
please follow the highlighted underlined link above.
We also have a complex manure system. This
system became more complex in 2006 with the addition of a Methane
Digester. This was possible through another project with Michigan
State University. This time with the
Department of BioSystems &
Agricultural Engineering. They are working on a study about
creating methane at a dairy that beds with sand. |
